Motorcycle Break Down - What To Do If You're Left Stranded

What would you do if you happen to break down while out for a ride on your motorcycle

? Would you be prepared? There are a number of items that you should always have with you when you're out on your motorcycle. These few small items can go along way if you ever need to do some road side maintenance on your bike.

Night time can be a great opportunity for riding, but there are certain things you should always have with you if something were ever to happen. You should have a couple different screw drivers at all times. Phillips head as well as Flat head screwdrivers should be in your tool bag. A flashlight to help you see in the dark is key, along with a crescent wrench, and perhaps some rags or something that you can use to clean up with if you get dirty.

If you ever do happen to get stuck with a non running motorcycle, there are a couple things that you can check initially. In order for an engine to run it needs gas, which is one thing youll want to check first. I know it sounds way to over simplified, but you never know when could have forgotten to fill up. Perhaps it just isn't circulating like it should be. In this case you may want to check the gas lines to see that they are properly connected and there are no leaks. You'll want to take a look at the spark plugs after you've checked the fuel supply to see if you are getting a spark. Take out the spark plug and leave it attached to the plug wire, and then hit the starter on your motorcycle. If you see a spark from the plug, then you should be ok. If not, you may need to dig a little deeper.

At this point, you're going to have to get it off the road and back to a shop or your own home somehow. If a tow truck is not an option, then perhaps you can get someone to help you trailer it home, or get it into a truck to take home. One way or another, you'll have to get away from the road where it won't be disturbed.

Once you get it home you'll be fine and will be able to further diagnose the issue but until then, you'll have to do what you can to protect it from those with bad intentions or it may end up stolen, or stripped down to nothing. Breaking down in the middle of a trip can be a frustrating experience but if you have a way out of the situation, can avoid being such a headache.
