Motorcycle Loading Ramps: Finding The Best Ramp

Motorcycle loading ramps are much more than just a ramp

, or at least better ramps are. And while you might think that a ramp is a pretty basic product, there are still a few features that you shouldn't do without. Here are several of those features.

Newer ramps are far superior to ramps that were used by bikers in years past. Today's motorcycle loading ramps have design innovations that make the product both easier and safer to use.

You'll find that many newer ramps can be broken down into sections. A sectional ramp often has three sections which are held together by a connecting rod. The design makes for fast assembly and tear-down, as well as ease of storage after use.

The platform can expand to about thirty eight inches across on sectional ramps, giving you lots of room for loading or unloading your bike. Once your bike has been put on or taken off your pickup, it doesn't take much time to get the ramp ready to stow away. Some of these sectional ramps fold in half; others are designed to come apart for storage.

Although you don't necessarily have to take the ramp apart while you go for a ride, doing that allows you to stow it away while you're gone. Although it does take some time to re-assemble, at least you can secure it in the cab or put it out of sight in the bed of the truck instead of leaving it leaning on your tailgate.

Safety features have as much importance as ease of use in motorcycle loading ramps, maybe even more so. Many of the newer loading ramps have been developed with safety having prime importance. First off are safety straps which are used in two different ways.

Safety straps are used to properly secure the ramp to your truck while loading or unloading your bike. You definitely wouldn't want the ramp to slide on you while your bike is on it.

Straps are also used to hold the ramp together while you are in transit. Again you don't want to have to be concerned about the ramp sliding around while your vehicle is moving. This won't happen if you use the safety straps to secure the loading ramp.

A second safety feature of note is the attaching lip with rubber pads. This lip keeps the loading ramp in place while the motorcycle is being moved onto or off of the truck. This is perfect for the rider who is loading unassisted. With this, you won't have to be concerned that the ramp might slip at the wrong time.

There is a huge selection of motorcycle loading ramps out there today. The best ramps will have lots of features designed with safety, ease of use, and efficient storage in mind.
