Motorcycle Rentals: Protecting Yourself Before And During The Ride

Motorcycle rentals are among the most difficult when it comes to renting transportation

. You must be prepared for the things that can (and do) happen - accidents, traffic tickets, breakdowns and flat tires. This article will provide you with information that can help you have a great motorcycle rental experience from start to finish. Whether you're just on a one-way journey or cruising around town, the following will be beneficial to you.

Renting a motorcycle in your hometown or far away from home can lead to a fun-filled experience if you're properly prepared. A little planning goes a long way and can be the difference between a great ride and a catastrophe.

Motorcycle rentals agencies are all over the world. You can find them online by visiting any motorcycle rental directory. Their individual websites should give you most, if not all of the information you need to make a decision about renting.

Once you choose a rental agency, it's time to choose your bike, assuming that the company has more than one type of bike available. If you're going on a long ride, say, more than 100 miles, you may prefer a bike that offers more comfort. Many bikes offer cushioned seats and back rests, stereo CD player, intercom, floorboards, lower fairings, and a host of other amenities. Will you be carrying a passenger? Take their needs into consideration as well! What will you need to take with you on your bike? Does it come with luggage bags or touring packs for extra storage?

If you're a frequent rider, it's a good idea to stick to what you know because you'll be more comfortable. If you don't ride a lot, choose a bike that's fun to ride and easy to handle. You should know that most states require motorcycle renters to be at least 21 years of age and carrying a motorcycle license with at least 1 year of riding experience. If you've never ridden a motorcycle or you don't have a motorcycle license, don't even try to rent one.

After you choose a bike, take a look at it to make sure it's in good condition before you sign the rental agreement. Make note of any dents, scratches or problems for which you don't want to be held responsible. Check the air pressure in the tires and look for cracks on the sidewalls and worn tread. Check the oil level, too.

Motorcycle rentals should cover all the bases, especially insurance. Make sure the agent carries liability insurance. They should give you a card or certificated to carry with you on the bike in case of an accident of traffic stop. Always have the registration and proof of insurance handy, along with a copy of the rental agreement with the agent's emergency phone numbers, mileage caps, time of return and any late return charges, gas charges (always use premium), and make sure you get the agent's signature on the agreement.

Be prepared for your ride as well! Make sure you have the proper gear (gloves, goggles, helmet, sunglasses, rain gear, etc) that will protect you from the road and the bumps along the way. After you start the bike, remove the key and put in a safe place so you don't lose it! And, most importantly, be safe and have fun!
