Motorola Droid X email issue - pop3 account SSL Nightmare
I recently got my Droid X (last week) and want so badly to be in love with it
. Thus far it has truly been a love/hate relationship. The love part needs no explanation. The hate part, however, pertains to some changes in the way pop accounts are setup (from Droid to Droid X) which prevents me from being able to send/receive work emails! I heavily rely on my mobile device for for work emails and get at least 30 or more messages a day that i can't afford to miss. I am desperate and hope that someone out there can shed some light on the issue.
The problem:
Unfortuntely, we do not have MS Exchange set up at work. The issue i am having involves an invalid certificate on the server.
On the Motorola Droid, in the incoming/outgoing settings(pop3), there is an option to choose "SSL" or "SSL(any certificate)." The "SSL(any certificate)" option is KEY. This is what allows me to bypasses the invalid certificate and everything works as it should - i can send/receive work emails on the Motorola Droid with no problems.
Similarly, in MS Windows(any version) you are prompted when you first setup the pop account. It tells you that the certificate is invalid and asks if you want to continue anyway. By clicking "yes" everything works as it should.
On the Droid X, for some strange reason, the option "SSL(any certificate)" is no longer available!! Making matters worse, i DO get a prompt (as expected on any device), but it does NOT give me the option to continue anyway (something every other device allows you to do)! The prompt says there is an invalid certificate and has buttons - "cancel" or "settings." All "settings" does is take you back to the page that USED to have the CRUCIAL option "SSL(any certificate)" - since that option has been removed, going back to the settings page is useless. Ug.
I am no stranger to mobile devices, hacks, roms, etc. I have had the mogul, htc touch, touch pro, touch pro 2, Motorola Droid, and now the Droid X. I have unlocked/rooted, and went to town on all of them - point being, i know that my settings should be correct. This is the first device that i have had this problem with and i am devasted that i may have to take it back over something that should NEVER be an issue on ANY device. The ports/settings are correct and my other pop accounts are working fine(i have a total of 4 pop3 accounts). The only account with the problem is the one with the invalid certificate - the most important one. Is this something that was accidently left out or is there another way to bypass an invalid certificate?
As an ugly workaround i tried adding the pop account through mail.google.com and i am able to get my work email, but i HATE having to do it this way and would rather not funnel it through gmail. To say I am frustrated would be the understatent of the century.
Has anyone heard of a fix coming, another workaround or anything that will allow me to bypass the certificate? Perhaps the "SSL(any certificate)" option or a similar option is hidden somewhere else? I am hoping that it is something i am missing or a bug which can be fixed - i have never seen a device (from pc's, ppc's to mobile devices) that doesn't allow you to simply "continue anyway." I feel like i am in the Twilight Zone being taunted with something so great, but just out of reach! Embarrassed, more about my review see http://www.DroidXForum.com Thanks for reading.
