Motorola Xoom Offers One Of The Best Displays Available On A Phone
The Motorola Xoom is Motorola's first entry into the rapidly expanding world of touchscreen tablets. The Xoom will join the swelling ranks of Android tablets but will be one of the first tablets to feature Android 3.0 Honeycomb. This is the first version of Android designed specifically for tablets, with earlier versions of the OS found on older tablets being designed primarily for smartphone usage.
The Xoom will also be one of the first tablets to come with dual core processors and 1GB RAM, effectively making it twice as powerful as earlier tablets. With a 10.1" screen the Xoom is one of the larger tablets on offer, although it still comes with a light weight of just 730g. The screen comes with a WXGA resolution (1280 x 800) which supports full 720p video playback. As a capacitive screen multitouch input is supported and it also features a multi-finger halographic interface introduced by Honeycomb Android, which allows you to zoom in on widgets and wallpapers on the tablet's homescreens.
The Xoom comes with Wi-Fi as well as 3G support. Through a future update the Xoom will also support 4G LTE connections, although this will only be effective in markets with 4G networks in place, such as the United States. USB 2.0 and Bluetooth are also on offer providing you with other means of data transfer. Coming with Android WebKit browser, the Xoom is a perfect device for browsing the web and with a YouTube app and Adobe Flash 10.1 support you can also enjoy streaming video content.
The Xoom comes with access to Android Market so you can download many apps and games to enjoy on the Xoom. The Xoom also comes with a gyro sensor which allows for full 3 dimensional controls to be used. The Xoom comes with full email support for the likes of Gmail and other web based email servers, and it also supports instant messaging clients like Google Talk. Video conferencing is made possible through the front facing camera.
The rear facing camera is 5 megapixels and comes with an LED flash and supports 720p video recording. An HDMI port is included with the Xoom allowing you to enjoy captured videos through your home TV and the tablet also comes with 32GB internal storage space for containing videos and other content.
The Xoom is Motorola's first tablet device and after a quick rundown of the specifications it is clear that it rightfully belongs in the second generation of tablets alongside the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and iPad 2. It is easy to see that in many areas the Xoom outperforms Apple's latest offering and it comes with a virtually unrivalled amount of processing power and entertainment features. With full tabbed browsing supported on the Xoom's browser, Motorola's debut tablet is perfectly suited for web browsing and comes with a superb camera that will have you making home movies in no time.
The Xoom is one of the most impressive tablets released in recent times, and certainly an impressive debut from Motorola. It also pushes itself straight to the front of the vast array of Android tablets on offer by its inclusion of Android Honeycomb.
