Motors are one of the most important innovations of 21st century
. They have formed the basic unit of many industrial products. Motors are used for various purposes ranging from household purposes such as motor pumps for lifting water to industrial purposes such as running turbines, Rotors etc.
A motor transfers electrical energy into rotational energy. Something which spins round has rotational energy. Rotational energy is a form of kinetic energy. Motors have a wide variety of uses and are found in cars, clocks, drills, fans, fridges, hair dryers, toothbrushes, vacuum cleaners, water pumps for fish tanks, central heating, fire fighting, washing machines, hard disk drives, DVD players, electric vehicles and industrial equipment which includes extruders, fork-lift trucks, lathes, mills in which textile motors are used , hoists, robots and winches. We would expect the efficiency of a motor to be between 70 and 85%. The wasted energy is heat and sound. Motors are widely used for a variety of reasons.
Standardized electric motors are often used in many modern machines but specific types of electric motors are designed for particular applications. Motor-driven mixers are very common in food manufacturing. Motors are often used to push products into containers horizontally. Many kitchen appliances also use motors. Food processors and grinders spin blades to chop and break up foods. Blenders use motors to mix liquids, and microwave ovens use motors to turn the tray food that sits on. Toaster ovens also use motors to turn a conveyor to move food over heating elements.
