Motor sports in a country like India have not become so popular a thing until a few years ago

. With all the major car brands opening shop in India and the number of cars being launched going off the charts its no surprise that even motor sports have become a lot more popular then they were a few years ago. There are many car lover communities who come together for various events which revolve around the different types of motor sports. Maruti Suzuki has been one of the pioneers in encouraging motor sports in India, and they have a bunch of different events held through the span of the year, namely, the Raid de-Himalaya, Dessert Storm, Autocross and the Dakshin Dare. These are also adrenaline filled events which involve various motor sports. Let"s look at a few of these events in slight detail.

Maruti Suzuki Raid-de-Himalaya

The raid-de-himalaya would be regarded as the most difficult motor sport rally in the country by most, but is a treat for the true car lovers. This rally is extremely demanding and requires you to try and steer and navigate your way through the most demanding and challenging roads while driving on very tuff terrain. The route of this rally begins at Baralacha La and continues onto Jalori Pass, Rotang Pass and then follows to Tanglang La and Khardung La, all these places lie along the Himalayas and so you can imagine the level of difficulty of this rally. This event goes on for an entire week between October 5th and 13th. There are three car categories, namely, Xtreme, Adventure Trial and Endurance.

Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm

The desert storm is a rally that spans across six days; you cover roughly 3000km through unexplored territory across the great Thar dessert, the Aravali"s and finally through the white sands of the Rann of Kutch. The course of this rally is perpetually through the interiors of Rajasthan and along the coast of Gujarat before you finish in Udaipur. This rally is a combination of challenging terrain and roads, heavily crowded patches where you would have to navigate through traffic. A rally of this sort makes for the perfect adrenalin rush and offers one many thrills and lots of excitement.

Autocross

The autocross event is held across the metropolitan cities in India and in spite of not being a rally, offers its participants lots of thrill and a chance to showcase their skills as a driver. The major aim of the autocross event is to give the participants a rallying feeling in a controlled environment. The few things drivers will learn is developing their sense of judgment and timing of each lap they take, along side evaluating their car and the extent to which they can push their car.
