Mount A Bathroom Design Offensive: Wall Mounted Furniture

Each year, bathroom designers and suppliers create and launch hundreds of new products

, from updates on traditional bathroom fixtures and fittings, to the cutting edge and hi-tech bathroom installations of the future. One trend that has gained significant popularity is bathroom furniture. A several years of minimal bathroom design, in which furniture was regarded as a dated and unnecessary bathroom feature, designers have taken heed of the demands of the public and created a huge array of elegant, modern units to create ample storage space in any bathroom without detracting from the aesthetic or overall dcor of the room.

However, even within the arena of bathroom furniture, which may seem like an area of interior design that should have fairly limited parameters, there are still a huge range of options and variables from which to choose. In the UK we sadly have the smallest average domestic room size of any European nation, and in deference to larger bedrooms and living spaces, the size of our bathrooms often ends up greatly reduced. Wall-hung units and cabinets can be a life-saver in a bathroom with limited floor space. They can provide ample storage for cosmetics, toiletries and cleaning products, to keep them all within easy reach but neatly stored away out of sight and no longer cluttering or cramping your bathroom. There are various options to choose from, the most obvious place to start being the mirrored cabinet. By upgrading your bathroom mirror to one of these models, you will still have the same functionality as before, yet with useful internal shelving to help organise your daily essentials and keep your basin area clear of mess.

Basin shelves are also becoming increasingly popular, as they can come with drawers or small cupboards built in beneath them; counter space to give you plenty of room to work, and enough room for a large basin, but without any loss of floor space.

Wall-mounted cabinets and fixtures can also be a great storage and access solution for the bathrooms of wheelchair users, with the maximum amount of floor space remaining available for manoeuvrability.
