Mount Abu - An Inspiring Sight!

. In this mighty state there is but only one hill station which is Mount Abu. Situated at around 1200 metres above sea level this is the highest peak in the Aravalli Range which is one of the worlds oldest mountain ranges. The highest peak on the mountain is named Guru Shikhar; it is often referred to as an oasis in the desert as its rocky heights are known to have rivers, lakes, waterfalls and forests.

This mountainous region in history is known to be the home of the Gurjaras who ruled the land for centuries until Mogul invasions. Mount Abu has a number of famous Jain Temples, one such are the Dilwara Temples that are carved out of white marble and situated amongst lush green hills. The mountain has also a number of Hindu temples such as the Shri Raghunathji temple, and the solid rock Adhar Devi temple. The cool mountain climate makes it an ideal retreat to escape from the sweltering heat during the summer months. The hillside is rich in flora which includes coniferous trees which help in cooling down the surroundings with light breezes. The legend of Mount Abu is that it was once home to 33 crore Gods and Godesses, so in the past it was a meditating ground. Other tourist attraction of Mount Abu is the Achalgarh fort that encloses some beautiful Jain temples and the Nakki Lake. It must be noted that the headquarters of the World Spiritual University is also here amidst the tranquillity of Mount Abu.
