Movies In Theaters This Weekend

The Princess and the Frog is the modern film loosely based on the Grimm Brothers fairy tale The Frog Prince

. This new version, however, should be more appropriate. The Grimm brothers version is based on a spoiled princess who befriends a frog that turns into a prince, though to rid of the frogs spell, the princess throws it up against a wall!

Im sure that the new version will turn the plot into something more meaningful, entertaining and of course, cruelty free. This is the first Disney movie to include an African-American princess. This modern tale takes place in New Orleans and the actors providing the voices of the characters include Anika Noni Rose as princess Tianna, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lewis, Keith David, Terrence Howard and John Goodman. Jennifer Lewis had this to say about the film, It's a great historical wonderful thing We now have an African-American princess, but Tiana is for all ages and nationalities, just like every one of the princesses were."

The Lovely Bones looks to be a very unique film about a teenage girl who is murdered and finds herself between worlds in the afterlife. The cinematography looks astounding and the plot is very unique. Its tough to say just where this movie will take us emotionally but Im certain that it will require at least one mini-packet of tissues. She needs to decide whether she will take revenge on her murderer or let go and move on. The Lovely Bones stars Mark Wahlberg, Rachel Weis, Susan Saradon, Stanley Tucci, Michael Imperioli and Saoirse Ronan- not too shabby. I have faith that Wahlbergs acting will be much better in this film than it was in The Happening.

Talk about the movie A Single Man has been plastered all over the Internet this month. There are high expectations of this film to live up to its name. Colin Firth plays the lead in this film as a man who is grieving the loss of his boyfriend. He is a British college professor in L.A. who is struggling to find the meaning of life and the film follows him for one day. There are many occurrences on this day that ultimately lead him to closure.

Most of you are probably wondering what the movie Broken Embraces (Los Abrazos Rotos) is about. It seems to have been overshadowed and left in the dust due to being released on the same weekend as four potential blockbusters. This Spanish language film could be very deep and intriguing or it may lose its flair with the way it is anticipated to constantly alternate back and forth between genres. The story is about a writer and film director whose life was traumatized years ago when he was involved in a car accident with the woman of his dreams. His wife is killed in the accident and he has created an alternate personality to help cope with life. He kills off his original personality in hopes to escape the pain completely and begins to heal and to become a functioning person in society. This film stars Penelope Cruz, Lluis Homar as Mateo/Harry Caine, Blanca Portillo and Jose Luis Gomez and Tamar Novas.
