Moving Forward with Email Marketing: Getting Your Customers to Help You Sell

Should you be in the happy position where your email marketing campaign is working like a charm then you have a golden opportunity to ramp up the results even further. All you have to do is encourage your customers to pass on the email to their friends and these personal recommendations can often result in further sales. After all, if your customers are enthusiastic about the purchases they have made from you then they may be only too willing to share this information with others.

Apple owners are a good example of this kind of marketing and more often than not they will wax lyrical about how their MacBook or iPhone is so much better than a rival brand to anyone who stays still long enough to listen.

Now while you might not have such a loyal customer base as this, there is still absolutely no harm in encouraging members of your email list to pass your information on to others. A simple line of text at the end of the email may be sufficient to do the trick. You might say something like: "Please feel free to pass this email on to any of your friends or family members who you think would be interested in this offer."

If the message gets passed on to several friends by several of your customers then you should be able to see the power that just asking this simple question can have.Obviously if your emails often contain a mixture of good quality advice, tips and information as well as a sales message then there is more potential for recipients to find something within them that others may want to read.

You may also want to consider adding an incentive such as offering a discount if a customer gets one or more friends to join your list or buy one of your products. There is also no harm in offering a range of incentives depending on how many new customers are actually brought in.

Finally from time to time a marketing email may arrive which contains the words: "This offer is for you alone. Do not share this information with anybody else." When this happens I am never really sure whether the marketer really does want the contents of the email kept private or whether they really hope the 'keep it to yourself' message will encourage recipients to do exactly the opposite!
