Moving on after being in a relationship for any period of time can be very hard

. There are many things you have to consider. Maybe you don't know what exactly you want out of a relationship, other than the fact you know that you want one and that you don't want a repeat of your previous unsuccessful and perhaps unpleasant experiences. You might have been hurt in the past and are afraid of going through the same kind of problems and heartache again. Or it could be that your past relationships and dating encounters have been such awful experiences that the thought of trying again literally brings you out in goose pimples. After all if we can manage to be so successful at making friends and having our day to day life happen the way we want them to, then why do feel so helpless and out of control when it comes to dating? Starting again after a relationship, particularly a serious one, can be a daunting prospect for most of us. Dating can often mean heartache, anxiety and sadness, however, it can also bring fun, excitement, lots of joy and a whole array of new experiences. It is important to realise that examining our past relationships is a good way to actually help us understand where we are going and what we want out of life. We can then have a better appreciation of what makes us feel good and indeed what we honestly value in a relationship. It doesn't matter whether you're new to the dating game or an old hand, or whether you just want to go out for the occasional date or be part of a serious relationship, analysing where you went wrong in the past will help you to work out what you want out of a new relationship. It will also allow you to explore the idea of being alone and being able to enjoy your own company. Being happy with yourself is an essential part of any successful relationship.
