Moving To A European Country

Moving To A European Country

If you are planning a big move to a European country, such as moving to France or moving to Germany, there are many different things you will want to consider, research, and plan before you ever start to pack or even buy your plane tickets. Here are some suggestions to help you get started on the big move.

One of the first things you should do before any big move is start cleaning out your junk. Yes, paring down your personal belongings is key to a smooth move. And if you're a pack rat, there's no time like the present to get started. If you aren't sure how or where to start, try reading the book Clutter's Last Stand by Don Aslett. Or do a Google search for articles on cleaning out clutter, or visit Amazon or Ebay for some other books on the subject.

Next, put all your affairs in order. This includes everything from looking into international driver's licenses and changing your address with the post office to paying off credit card bills, cancelling gym memberships, and giving your granny your new address. There are hundreds of little things to do, and you may forget some if you don't make a list. Write everything you need to do down as soon as you think of it, and get a few things crossed of your list every day.

Learn the language. This may seem silly if you are working with an English company even though you're moving to France or moving to Germany, but you should realize that in daily life you will need to use the local languagein the shops, at the bank, at the gym. You will acclimate yourself into the culture a lot better if you start to learn the language before you ever set foot on foreign soil. You'll make more friends and feel more comfortable if you can learn to speak to the locals in their own language.
