Moving day is close handy and now's the time to pack away your home in expectation of the big day
. But when it comes to packing away the big stuff such as the bigger appliances and furniture many find themselves at a loss for the easy way to start. Do you disassemble everything or just throw it in as is? Do you want to wrap them or put them in a box? Don't sweat it I've got some great tips for making sure you can move the big stuff like the pros.
When it comes to preparing your furniture for a move there are far more than a few things that need to be done. You should be sure to clean your furniture before you stand by to move it. This way you do not have to stress about cleaning after a long week of emptying. Be certain to remove any detachable parts and place them in obviously labeled boxes. Remove drawers, table legs and glass tops before packing the furniture away. Make sure that everything is obviously labeled so you know what goes where. Use furniture blankets or sofa covers for your sofas to keep out moisture and dirt during transit. Wrap the corners of tables and dressers in cardboard to avoid damage and do not be afraid to use plenty of bubble wrap. When packing away your beds, you need to be certain to disassemble the frame. You must wrap the mattresses to keep out dust and moisture and lash the pieces of the frame together to keep them from getting lost.
When working with the bigger appliances such as fridges, washers and dryers there's rather more that must be addressed. Refrigerators should be unplugged for a full 24 hours before a move. Remove everything from the inside including the racks and totally clean the fridge before you get ready to move it to stop mold. If your chiller has an ice dispenser, be certain to disconnect and drain the waterline before you move it. You also need to tie the doors shut with rope or zip-ties to prevent them from opening. Washers and dryers require only light disassembly. Simply remove all of the hoses and pack them in clearly marked boxes. Make efforts to secure the drum of the washer to ensure that it doesn't come unbalanced during transit. You can wrap these appliances in bubble wrap if you would like to add some additional padding, but it is not obligatory.
Moving the larger appliances and furniture can be quite the chore for the average DIY mover. All the dissembling wrapping and padding can appear quite daunting for most but if you follow these simple tips moving the big stuff will be a breeze.
