Moving to Mexico - Do It Yourself Vs. Hiring a Moving Company

If you are moving from the US to Mexico and you want to take your household items along with you, there are two main options for you to consider. These are either moving yourself or hiring a moving company which can handle either the entire move, or the difficult parts of the move for you.

First you can move yourself, which may seem like a great idea and a way to save some money but you have to consider everything this entails, especially since moving to another country isn't the same as moving down the block or even to a different state or across the country.

First of all, like any other move you will have to rent a truck, carefully pack all of your belongings and load them into the truck yourself, or hire someone to do this for you, and then drive yourself all the way to the Mexican border.

Most truck rental companies won't allow you to take their truck into Mexico so you will have to hire a customs broker who will help you take your belongings across the border. You will also need to make sure all of your paperwork is in order or you could get denied entry, or worse have your items confiscated for a number of months and have to pay large fines to get everything back.

After this you can load your stuff into a new truck you rent on the Mexico side and finally proceed to your new home in Mexico where you still have to unload and unpack everything into your house.

This is a lot of work and the costs do add up, since you are paying for two different truck rentals and most likely some hired help along the way to make things easier on yourself.

The other main option is to hire an international moving company who can handle all of the above for you, picking up your belongings at your home in the United States and then dropping them off at your new home in Mexico, even helping you unpack and organize your new home.

Hiring a moving company can certainly make things a lot easier for you, the only downside is it may be more expensive than doing it all yourself. However, many people opt to hire a moving company when comparing the time and headaches caused by trying to do it all by themselves.

However, you may find that some moving companies are able to offer very competitive prices when compared to all of the costs that can add up by doing it yourself. Not to mention that your time is valuable and hiring a moving company can save you hundreds of hours of work.

Now, if you aremoving to Mexico, you can find out just how affordable it can be to hire a moving company by getting a free estimate for your move.
