Mr. Olympia Title Champs Since 65'!
The title of Mr. Olympia has been contested for the last 45 years since 1965. During these years, only ten body builders have won the title, most of them having repeat wins. Among these ten male body builders who have successfully embossed their insignia to the title and gloriously planted their own flag on top of the prestigious Mount Olympia award, eight of them have done it for several years. Only two Mr. Olympia title holders have done it for a single year. The two one-time champions of the Mr. Olympia title have been the old guard Chris Dickerson and the controversial winner Samir Bannout who persisted in search of the title for many years after loosing it.
During all these editions of the Mr. Olympia title, only one body builder ever won the title during his first try. It was only Larry Scott who ever won the Olympia title on the very first attempt of the contest. All the other Olympia heroes tried severally, loosing for some time to other champions before they themselves were bestowed the honor.
In all the contests to date, the youngest ever Mr. Olympia contester was Harold Poole. Harold Poole competed for the Mr. Olympia title in 1965 when he was only 21 years old. It was a first time achievement that has not been repeated yet! On the other hand, the oldest body builder who ever contested for the Mr. Olympia title was Albert Beckles. In 1991, Albert Beckles competed for the prestigious title being a whooping 53 years old. Although he had struggled and hustled for it for 12 years, in 1991 he won to become the oldest competitor for the title ever recorded.
But greater records were to be set in the following years of the Mr. Olympia title editions. In 1970, a youngster slightly older than Harold Poole, entered the competition for his second time. Arnold Schwarzenegger was only twenty three in 1970 and he amazed the world when he won the title. He became the single youngest Mr. Olympia title winner at 23 years old, a feat never repeated to date. Famed for his muscle definition, Arnold Schwarzenegger was to continue his domination of the title for years later, but the record was set.
Still on the hand, as far as age is considered, the single oldest Mr. Olympia title winner was the old guard Chris Dickerson. Dickerson won the Mr. Olympia title in 1982 when he was an amazing 43 years old. Although he never managed to retain the title in the following year or to regain it ever again, Dickerson had asset the record at the age of an Olympia title holder on that summer of 82'.
On average, the Mr. Olympia title winners have been at the age of 34, since 1965 to date. Most of these body builders try for several years before they capture the title. Others persist in the competition years after loosing it. The body builder and one time champion of the title who has entered the most number of contests as a competitor was Albert Beckles with 13 entries. Beckles tie with Shawn Ray for the title in 13 career entries. The one time champ, Samir Bannout stands close behind them with 11 entries.
