The Mulee-aage Palace was first constructed by the hands of the great Sultan Shamsudeen. It was in fact a gift for his son, a place built before the World War one. But the Sultan and the Son no more stayed in the palace after 1936, they were banished from the island after which this palace became Government property. For years it played not much of a role but in 1986 it was declared the House of the President of Maldives. For nearly 8 years it served this purpose, hosting official gatherings and entertaining foreign delegates. In 1994 the President moved to the new official residence built on the Eastern end of the compound. Since then the Mulee-aage Palace just stands as a symbol of the history of Male, a treasured ornament that can be explored.
