Mun Nork Island, Thailand - Hidden Treasure Of Thailand

In need of a quiet holiday by a quiet beach, a friend recommended Mun Nork Island

. I have never heard of this place before and couldnt find it in any guide books or any Thai forum. But my friend insisted that it is a great place.

So trusting my friend who has lived here his whole life, I booked a 3 days 2 nights package. After a 3 hour bus ride and an hour ferry, I reached Mun Nork Island. The island looked tiny, about 300 meters wide (its probably more). When we were getting on the island we noticed there was little open air beach huts along the beach. They looked very well built and had a lot of other things like hammocks and swings.

After looking around the island, there was nothing else, our resort was the only thing on this island. No shopping malls or shopping stalls. Just a few bungalows and beach huts. What was even better was there was only one other couple on the resort with us.

The water was crystal clear with white sand. With pretty much nobody around, my wife and I just lazed back under the beach hut for most of the day. It was great, there was no other noise apart from the water splashing on the sand.

After a while I decided to fo walk around the Island, it was all bush with a track, about half way around I found the bush was littered with rubbish everywhere, it was hard to believe I was still on the same island. I guess it has built up over time and no-one been bothered to clean the place up. There is some great views too on the track, but the rubbish spoils them. Even with all the rubbish it was still good fun.

All food is provided for you (as you cant really get food anywhere else) and they make sure you dont go hungry with 5 large dishes. The seafood is fresh as you can see some of the staff catching the fish during the day.

The accommodation is not too bad, although there is no hot water, the rooms are clean and have aircon.

All in all it was a nice place, despite the rubbish on one side of the Island, Mun Nork Island is a beautiful place, the beaches have to be up there with the best beaches in Thailand. The beach is spotless and very quiet. It did live up to a great place to go to and I would like to go back some day. Hopefully the other side of the Island will look better.
