Muscat City A Beautiful Oasis

The largest and capital city of Oman, Muscat has a glorious history dating back to

the 1st century CE when it was part of the trading route from the east to the west. Ruled by indigenous tribes, Persians and the Portuguese, Oman boasts of a history that dates through historical events in time. Most parts of its landscape are made up of dessert, of which most routes are yet to be discovered. The beaches along the Muscat are pristine and untouched. A natural edifice that stands out is the Western Al Hajar Mountains dominating the skyline.

Popular sports in Oman remain to be dune bashing, where 4WD vehicles travel the dessert dunes at high speed. Camel races are a traditional means of entertainment and a popular local sport that is a must-see while in the country. Sandboarding is also another activity that is a worthwhile experience for those who look forward to some adventure while on holiday.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is a beautiful architectural sight that accommodates approximately 20,000 worshippers at prayer time. Old Muttrah Souk situated in the heart of the Central Business District of Oman is a splendid age old flea market selling just about everything, from exotic spices to jewellery. The Corniche of Oman is also a picturesque sight and is ideal for a leisurely stroll through in the morning or evening. Visit the Fish Market and witness the traditional practise of buying and selling fish from centuries ago. Many forts also reside in the city which was used during war times to fortify and secure the main city against pirates and other infiltrators.
