Music Is A Great Theme For A Media Room

Some themes are natural compliments to the rooms in which they are applied

, and incorporating a musical theme into a media room is exactly one of these compliments. You can incorporate music into your room by selecting an artist, a genre, or even musical instruments.

Music, Drama and Art

Music lends itself to drama. For example, you could paint your favorite musical score all around the room as a border at the top of your wall. It is easy to do. Simply paint five black lines around the room on whichever part of the wall appeals to you. Then grab your favorite sheet music and a stencil, or go freehand, and start singing.

Another way to add drama to your walls and honor a favorite musical work is to stencil the lyrics of your favorite song around the room. While the musical score is more angular and graphic, stenciling the words can appear angular, formal or flow gracefully around the room. They can even meander across the wall appearing at a different level on each wall if you want your design to be a little more free form.

Comfortable Accessories

A throw rug with a music theme adds a whimsical touch to the floor, pillows in the shape of music notes could be fun tucked into your favorite chair. You can find specialty items like this at gift stores as well as online, or you can make your own by drawing, painting or applying an applique.

Frame It

Frame posters of your favorite artists, album covers, or other memorabilia. Garage sales and thrift shops are a wonderful source for finding old album covers and records. While the album covers are excellent graphic sources, the actual records lend themselves as a design element as well. Concert posters, Broadway musicals and movie musicals are excellent sources of graphic decoration for your room.

Books Work in the Room

And of course there are a plethora of books available on any music subject that you can imagine; however you could also display a collection of sheet music or favorite musical scores. Not only do they add a graphic element to the room, but also they make for good reading. And no musical theme room would be complete without the latest copy of Rolling Stone magazine.

Add Art to the Walls

To add interest and texture to a wall you can hang almost any musical instrument. Taller or larger instruments can occupy a corner. If you play a musical instrument, this would be an excellent place to display it as well. Otherwise, thrift and pawnshops are a good place to start looking for old instruments to adorn your walls, and you can even make an old instrument into a lamp or sculpture.

Creative Storage and Display

If you have an extensive CD display, why not use this opportunity to display it. Find an open display rack that you can use to display your CDs in style. Then you can organize your display by artist, by year, by genre and even by color. However you choose to go about displaying your music in your media room, it is sure to add personality and fun to the room.
