They will gain a lot of confidence as well if the bad actually becomes slightly popular at their school. Also, kids who arent bored and are busy expressing themselves with their music are a lot less likely to get into alcohol and drugs because they are already living fulfilling lives. Talking to your kids about this kind of thing is also extremely helpful so do not be afraid to breach the subject with them. All they want is for someone to be honest with them about drugs and alcohol. They usually wont sink into it if you are honest with them.
Smaller children can get into music as well during the summer months as well. Its good to start them on something early in the summer because they have a lot of spare time to devote to the task. All the practice will be worth it for both you and your children. Giving them electric guitar kits might give you a headache at first, but enduring the terrible sounds will pay off one day.
A musical extracurricular activity isnt the only thing you can help them get into during the summer, but it is one of the best ways to stimulate the minds of your children during three months of basically no thinking. Video games and television will not make your children any smarter so buy them a few peavey amps and an instrument of their choice and let them go at it in the basement or garage. Its better than the alternative.
