,I knew I found my true love. The shape of the watch is perfectly balanced, and the dial presents a true elegance that can stand the test of time. And the harmonious chrono function makes another classic IWC watch. Now, I own a replica IWC 3714 that with steel case and black dial. I feel quite pleased with it, though it is just a rep.

The IWC Portuguese Chrono now have 7 different variants. And the most breath-taking one should be the one with ardoise dial, which is just crafted from white gold. My baby rep is based on the gen The 3714-38 which hit the market in 2006.

One of the big defects of the 3714-38 variant is the lack of AR coating. The genuine which was released in 2006 comes with double AR which adds some points to the look of the dial. The white dial versions were originally launched without AR, so these are accurate to the genuine with or without AR.

The IWC logo lettering on my rep is a bit thinner than the gen. And only very sharp eyes can spot this in a few seconds. The Arabic numerals are slightly thicker than those on the gen. Besides, their shape is also slightly different.With the genuine 3714-38, the numerals are slightly curved, the 4 being the most noticeable as it is underlined in yellow. The 6 is very slightly flatter' on the genuine. My replica obviously uses the older styled numbers which is incorrect for this particular model.

The genuine comes with a brushed case back, but my replica has been polished ,which is incorrect. The crown on the replica can be found on the genuine white dial models before 2006. I believe that the crown was updated when the black dial variant was released in 2006. The new crown comes with the Motto "Probus Scafusia" which was introduced as the sign of IWC's quality by Johannes Rauschenbach-Schenk in 1903. The fish symbol signals that the watch is water resistant.

The chrono pushers also look to be a hair too long on the replica, but I am talking margins that could only be confirmed accurately by use of a loupe or a mouse with a tape measure.

The genuine uses a modified Swiss 7750 movement, with 31 jewels. The movement utilities a seconds at 6 layout, whilst having a chronograph counter that measures seconds (big hand) and minutes (top sub dial).

The replica uses a modified 7750 also, but with a different system of transferring the power to the 6 position. The gen uses a pearl pattern on the movement, whereas the replica doesn't. It's key to remember that this is a closed case back model, so any inaccuracies are not prevalent in everyday wear.

As we all know and love, the infamous seconds at six 7750 made the rep 3714 like an Alfa Romeo. Your heart wanted to buy into such a fabulous piece of craftsmanship, but deep down you just knew there would problems at some/all stages of use.

No replicas in the world can be perfect. I feel lucky that my replica still has the basic look and functions of the gen, though there are some flaws. For the price which is just a small fraction of the real price tag, I can completely accept these flaws. If you have a limited budget and love the 3714, just simply turn to a trusted dealer for a good replica version.
