My grandmother had planned for her retirement. She had worked and saved all her life never suspecting that she would get sick once she retired. She is fine now. However, when she got really sick and needed medication she never thought her insurance would not pay for all of it.

I guess it can happen to anyone who is retired. My grandmother's insurance plan paid for her prescribed drugs until October last year. She got a notice that she would have to pay the next two thousand dollars or more before her insurance policy would start paying again for the prescription drugs.

When she called me she did not mention that she wanted to sell her gold jewelry. She asked me to come over to help her clean out her jewelry boxes. I must admit that I was eager to help. As we rummaged through six old jewlery boxes that were filled to the brim with some beautiful jewelry we discovered that there were many pieces that had broken clasps. Other necklaces were broken in half. There was no way to repair most of the broken pieces. It would cost too much to repair many of the pieces that could be salvaged.

We dumped all the jewelry onto the bed and sat around it like children opening presents on Christmas morning. Most of the pieces had a story. My grandmother shared the stories as she put the good pieces carefully back into the jewelry boxes, offered me a few of the pieces I admired, and sorted the broken pieces into a pile.

I watched as the pile of broken pieces grew. My grandmother began to smile. "I saw on the television that I can sell gold jewelry to a company and they will pay me even if the pieces are broken."

Needless to say I was skeptical. All I could think was that my grandmother was falling for a scam. She told me that she was going to sell her gold jewelry that was broken to MyGoldEnvelope.
