My Grandpa and his Tea Bell
My great grandpa passed away a year ago in October. He was put in a retirement home about seven years before he died and then 3 years later he had to move into the nursing home because he got in a fight with another retirement home resident. Anyway, I was saying that to just to give you background about him because I want to reminisce a little. My grandpa was a stubborn man so that is why the memory I am going to share makes me giggle. It was just hard to believe that the retirement home got him to participate (I think he only did it because he had a crush on the lady that ran the place).
Every Christmas the retirement home has a Holiday dinner for the residents and their families. My mom, dad, little brother and I would all go down there to enjoy this dinner party with him. Before the dinner they would have music from a local group and then they would have some of the residents put on a little performance. They taught them to play hand bells! They all rang the bells to the tune of a song. One song that they played was Jingle Bells. The leader of the performance had decorated those cute little steel tea bells with red and green ribbons and each of the residents stood in front of us and rang their bells in tune. It was always a great performance. My Grandpa looked so happy up there just a ringing that tea bell away. After they were finished everyone applauded and the residents that were playing were grinning so wide. It was nice to see that such a small little steel bell can bring so much enjoyment to so many people, especially my great grandpa.
I'm not sure where they purchased those bells from, but I wanted to find a store that sells a Steel Tea Bell like that to put in my living room so that when I see it I will forever be reminded of my great grandpa's smile and to take joy in the simple things.
I started writing this a few hours ago and since then I have been searching the internet trying to find myself a bell, it has not been an easy task I must say, mostly because I do not really care to order from Amazon. However, I did FINALLY find a store in Virginia that sells them. Luckily they do sell over the internet and the phone. I am so excited to go ahead and order this so I believe I will log off of here today and hopefully I will have my cute little steel tea bell in a week or two. Thank you for reading about my great grandpa. I hope it made you feel warm and fuzzy inside, or maybe now you want a tea bell to remind you of my story. So long for today, I am going to order my bell! Have a great day!
