My Inspiration For Film Making

Recently, I went to a local short film festival that featured many stories from real

life or at least they claimed to be based on a true story! The films were all awesome and entertaining, and it made me realise that there are so many different things that I do not know about real life.

Some stories from real life can seem a little bit unusual or fake, especially for those who were not there to see it. After all, they say that seeing is believing. Or perhaps it should be that believing is seeing, because everything in our mind has been filtered by our own schema.

One of my favourite films from the festival was about a person who was a Garbage Collector. It sounds really strange, doesn't it? However, as the movie progressed, it told the story of how he became a Garbage Collector. He came here as an illegal refugee from his war-torn country decades ago and because he couldn't speak the local language and did not have enough money, he became the only job he could do without any qualifications he became a Garbageman. Although he has collected rubbish for most of his working life, he was happy because he was free.

Another movie that I liked was about World War 2. This movie was true story about an orphaned family of 3 brothers, whose parents were killed by the Nazi's, so they ran away deep into the woods in an attempt to try and escape the bloodshed. Whilst hiding in the woods, they found many other Jews who were trying to escape from the evil soldiers so the brothers took charge and tried to look after their ever growing family. It was really fascinating, because I had never read about this in my history books.

This short film festival made me realise that I am fortunate to be living in a safe and harmonious nation with a family that is still alive. The experience has encouraged me to create my own film about stories from real life. Wish me luck!
