My Week Off

We all detest Monday mornings, getting back to work after a well spent weekend is just horrible

. We all have heard of the term Monday morning blues, this saying perfectly describes how difficult a task getting to work on time on a Monday morning is. However, for the first time in a long time I woke up on Monday morning with a huge smile across my face. This was because I had an entire week from Monday to Friday off, so while my colleagues must have been frowning and cribbing about reaching work, my holiday was yet to begin.

My week off had been perfectly planned by me weeks ago and I was looking forward to a week of just taking it easy and getting as far away from work as I could. I was not available on the email or my cell phone which made me breathe a huge sigh of relief as there was no way work was going to get in the way of me spending quality time with my wife and children. I was going to take a road trip from my hometown of Bangalore to a place called Munnar. We were going to travel in my Wagonr and initially I was apprehensive about making a road trip in a hatchback but my wagonr was fresh out of the garage and hence I felt that she would be able to handle it. We left the house at around 7.30am, considering it was so early in the morning we did not encounter any of the horrid city traffic.

Our next destination was going to be Mysore which was about 150kms away. After a couple of hours of driving we reached Mysore and checked into our hotel. After dropping our bags and belongings in our room we headed straight to the restraint and feasted on some beautiful chettinad food. We relished every bite we ate, and I felt great as the holiday I had been planning for so long was finally underway. We stayed the night in Mysore to catch up on some rest as I needed to drive a lot the following day. We woke up the next morning and immediately left for Munnar, the scenery around us was mind blowing and lush green and all my wife and kids did was stare out the window in absolute awe. After driving for a couple of hours we saw a sign that said Munnar was a 100kms away. We stopped for a chai break in the middle and continued on to reach our destination, we passed the Tamil Nadu and Kerela check posts in quick succession and reached Munnar soon after. The hours of non stop driving had taken their toll as I went to sleep soon after checking into the hotel.

Even though it was such a long drive, not for a second did I regret making this road trip. I was also extremely impressed with the way my wagonr held up against all the bumpy roads and I would regard it as the best family car in its range.
