My wife is cheating. How could she do this to me? What are the reasons why women cheat? These are all questions that are probably swirling around in your mind at a time like this.

Finding out that your wife is cheating on you is hard. It's not as difficult though as wondering whether she is cheating or not. It's also not as bad as living through the lies that are told to make the cheating possible. You knew she wasn't being truthful but you never really suspected anything as devastating as this, right?

You're not alone. More and more women are beginning to cheat on their husbands than ever before. There are countless reasons why but one that seems to take everyone by surprise is: opportunity.

1) Workplace opportunities. There are more women in the workforce today than at any other time in history. Women work side by side with men in their field of choice. They work together, talk to one another, and have their work in common. Many times, your wife spends more time with her coworkers on any given day than with her family. Before anyone realizes what's building up it's too late to undo what's been done.

2) Technological opportunities. We live in a wired world. Cell phones, text messages, iPads, wireless Internet, laptop computers, and the list goes on and on. With all this connectivity, the world is becoming a much smaller place and there are increased opportunities to connect with people across the street or around the world. It makes perfect sense that your wife would have additional resources when it comes to cheating even if she isn't looking to cheat, the opportunities exist and circumstances sometimes carry everyone away.

3) Leisure time opportunities. Sometimes she simply has too much time on her hands. You work hard for your family and sometimes that requires you to put in long hours at work. Unfortunately, that leaves her with plenty of long and lonely hours to fill without you by her side. It isn't your fault that you're working to build a better life for your family but there are concessions that need to be made in order to make her feel special, wanted, and infinitely less lonely while you're working those extra hours.

The bottom line is that women today have more opportunities to cheat than they've ever had before. That is why statistics are beginning to show, for the first time in human history, that women are almost equally inclined to have affairs as men.

That doesn't help you feel any better about your situation at home but it should give you hope for the future. If you can figure out why your wife is cheating you can take steps to prevent it in the future.
