It is so nice having a diverse family with interesting occupations. Anytime I have a question about something I can almost always call on my family to help me out. The one I call the most is my Uncle Buck. Buck or Bucky got his name from another relative referring to his hunting passion. It was no surprise to everyone when he became the county SPCA officer. I never thought I would find myself taking a picture of feces and sending it to someone, but I have definitely done that to my poor uncle. One morning I was taking my dog out for his morning walk when I saw a huge pile of animal scat that I had never seen before. My little pug is totally unable to create such a stink so I immediately knew there was something else visiting my yard. I took a picture on my cell phone and sent it to my uncle. He decided it would be best for him to come over and take a look. My first thought was that it might be a bear, but after a little Droid-Googling, I realized it was not. What scared me the most is that there was quite a bit of hair in it and I was worried that this thing might have eaten a poor little animal. When my uncle arrived he informed me that I had a bobcat checking out my yard. I was so scared! My uncle assured me that he could take care of the visitor without harming him. He said he had just the thing to rid me of my huge cat problems.
After just a few minutes my uncle had baited and set a metal trap. He told me he was using a Havahart 1081 Professional Live Animal Trap. Apparently this is a Havahart Live Trap used to capture Bobcats, Feral Cats, Large Raccoons, Nutria, Small Dogs & other similar size animals. I was surprised that they even made such a thing, but I was grateful to see it being set. My uncle explained to me how it works.
"A single super-fast spring-loaded door with a special locking system lets the trap operate at nearly any angle. The animal can walk the whole way into the trap and past the trip plate when the door shuts ensuring even a large animal will be caught. The interior of this trap is made with smooth edges that protect and prevent injuries to the caught animal. To ensure my safety when I relocate the animal there is a solid door and handle guards."
To be on the safe side I sent my pug to stay with my mom for the night. My uncle told me he would check the trap in the morning. Later that night my husband I heard an awful noise coming from outside. When we went out to look, there he was a great big bobcat in the trap. I decided to call my uncle. He came right over to relocate the critter.
Since then I have bought one of these Animal Live Traps for myself. It was a little bit expensive, but you can't put a price tag on peace of mind.
