To get in shape and get some lean muscle takes time. So the quote: "If I will lift weights I will get too much muscle mass and become unpleasant to look at", is just another way to say you are lazy. Big muscles do not come over night like some think. It takes a lot of hard work and devotion.

This one is very common with obese people who try to blame their genetics for being overweight.

As of contrary a quote "I don't want to get too big" is a result of media and marketing who is showing their pro bodybuilders in almost every sports ad and on food supplements. Not only that, fitness today is more and more about getting big muscles as of getting fit, lean and healthy.

I can assure you will not wake up some morning and find yourself with extra 5kg of muscle mass.

Adding muscle mass takes time, training, dieting and a lot of hard work.

Maximum growth of muscle tissue a month is about 0.5kg of muscle if conditions are optimal and even than only for the first 6-12 months of training after that it all slows down. If you are gaining more than 0.5kg to 1kg of weight per month you are gaining also something else than muscle mass most likely fat.

Growing pace of muscle mass depends also on:

- sex and age (when males reach their 30's, gaining muscle mass becomes harder)

- training

- dieting (correct nutrition will bring much better results, diet must be treated as much important as training)
