Mytouch 3g Slide A Competitive Move For T-mobile?

Once again capitalizing on the overwhelmingly popular droid phones

, T-Mobile and HTC have released another amazing Android product into the market. The HTC 3G myTouch Slide phone is the latest edition to the HTC MyTouch family most T-Mobile Android users have become familiar with. While this product should adequately help T-Mobile to draw in those new to the Android operating system, it is a tad bit of a disappointment to those that were expecting something more flashy and competitive.

Though this phone was initially viewed as a competitor for the HTC Incredible or Motorola's Droid 2, this phone really is more of a mid-range product in the class of the LG Ally, or the original Motorola Droid. The processor speed is a disappointing 600mhz for those looking for a high end product, though the HTC version of the 2.1 Android operating system performs fairly well despite this. Though the myTouch 3G Slide phone is not the device it was touted to be, the price point does match up with the phone category that it does fit into.

The slide out keyboard to the myTouch 3G Slide is one of the phone's main features, which is meant to draw in users who are new to touch screens. The rounded keys do make a far better solution than the more flat design seen by other slide phones like the original Motorola Droid or the Devour. The touch screen is larger than the original MyTouch, coming in at 3.4 inches. This may not seem like much of an increase over the 3.2 inch screen of the original myTouch , but it makes quite a difference in viewing and use. The detracting factor from this screen is the resolution. The screen resolution on this device only comes in at 480 x 320.

Although the keyboard is a positive improvement, the touchscreen is probably going to be seeing more action, especially since the myTouch 3G Slide boasts Swype typing capability as well. A screen protector is apt to be a good investment, even for those who initially think they will use the keyboard for most operations. As far as accessories are concerned, a case might be an important get as well. This is mostly because the phone's backing tends to feel a tad bit cheap and unable to withstand much impact.

It is uncertain when the myTouch 3G Slide can be expected to update to the 2.2 operating system. The proprietary software running on this phone would make it likely for that update to take some time to come through. With HTC being one of the original users of the Android system, they have perfected the OS for their phones fairly well, making this less of an issue. The Genius button allowing for voice commands is top notch and will also make this a draw for new users. The Faves gallery gathers social network information for up to 20 friends making this a very social friendly phone. The myTouch 3G Slide can still be favorably compared to most mid-level Android smarphones.
