Pico projector phones are still relatively new to the scene, and the NCBC 888 is one of the newest out there. Let's take a look at what this little phone has to offer.

If I were to look at the NCBC 888 phone and saw that it didn't come with a projector, I would think that it was a completely standard phone without too many bells and whistles. Seeing as one actually is integrated though, and also works quite well, this phone does have something something of a hook that will draw some people in. I do wish though that its appearance was less ugle.

So lets take a quick peek at the NCBC 888's basic specs to get a better handle on it and what it offers.

The phone's pico projector is 2 LUX, has a resolution of 640x480, and is a manual focus lens.

The phone is unlocked for use on any of the 4 GSM networks.

It is built with dual SIM ports which allows two SIM cards to be used at the same time.

The primary materials used are PCP (Polycarbonate plastic) for the casing, as well as faux leather for the back cover.

The screen size measures 2.4inches, has a resolution of 240x320, and is constructed from TFT.

Weight for this model is 130 gm.

Total phone measurements are Length-117 Width-49 Height-17 mm.

Mobile browsing of the internet is done via GPRS and WAP 2.0.

The phone has a mixture of touchscreen keypad control.

In general, the battery should will last 40~60 hours with normal use, but the projector mode is only about 3 to 5 hours tops.

More games or programs are available by downloading and installing java apps to the java platform.

Extras include: a camera, a camcorder, an eBook reader, an analog TV receiver, a FM radio, and a MP3 player and MP4 player.

So after testing the NCBC 888 out, here are my thoughts on the main pros and cons:

Pros

The pico projector actually works very well and projects what is displayed on the phone's screen in good definition.

Being the first quad band projector phone, the NCBC 888 can be bought and used anywhere in the world.

At under 200 dollars 172.25 actually), it is about the cheapest projector that I have ever seen on a phone.

It is highly unlikely that anyone else on your block is going to have a phone with a projector built in.

Cons

Three words: It's pretty ugly.

Navigating through the phone's menu is a pain when you have the projector mode on, as you have to hold the phone sideways to get a normal view.

If they had made it so the projector mode was accessible by touching one key rather than having to navigate to a sub menu, it would have been a lot more convenient.

If you don't pay attention to the admittedly noticeable flaws, the NCBC 888 really does work well as a phone with a pico projector and has a price that is about as low as you are going to see any time soon.
