First off is the money line. The money line will give the odds on who is favored to win. A negative number before the team's name means that that team is favored to win. For example, if a team has odds of +160, it means that you have to risk a hundred dollars to win $160 (NFL bets have a minimum of a hundred dollars to place), but if the odds on a team are -180, you'll have to risk betting $180 just to win a hundred bucks.

The next betting option is the point spread. There are games where one team is highly favored to win, that makes for a boring game in terms of betting. The point spread system not only defines the odds of which team will win, it also says by how many points over the opponent it will win. For example if the point spread is +10 on a certain team, that means that it has to win the game by 10 points or more; if the team wins by 9 points, then they are deemed as the losing team in the betting houses.

The last of the most popular betting system is the totals or over/under. Say the points for a particular game are set at 40. If you place an over bet on the game, you win if the combined points of both teams after the game are over 40 points.
