NFL WEEK 4: The Showdown and the Letdown

The Baltimore at Pittsburgh game lived up to the expectation

. These two teams know each other,they hate each other and they basically knock the hell out of each other. It was like a good old school heavy weightfight. They are if there not already, becoming the best rivalry in the NFL. It was like watching a playoff game in October. It was loud, it was violent and when it was over you could see the happiness in the eyes of the Raven and the dejection in the eyes of the Steelers. Normally watching a low scoring game isboring, like the Chicago NewYork Giant game, but this onehad some drama on everyplay. On third downand longs, it was interesting to seewith each teams defense if theywere going to blitz,zoneblitz or justrushthree and drop eight into coverage and how the offenses would counter. The Ravens defensehas always been terrific and the one constant is Ray Lewis. He's all over the field,making tackles in the backfield andin pass coverage. That was a difficult interception at the end of the game. Lewis has great hands. He could play tight end if he wanted.Its hard to believe this is his fifteenth year in the league. Lewis plays like a third year player hungrytrying to keep his spot on the roster. He is a lock for theHall of Fameon the first ballet. Joe Flacco is quickley becoming a topendquarterback. The gamewinning pass to Housmandzadeh was clutch.It was not easy,because it wastiming pass and Flacco had to make sure to look away the safety and make a perfect throw. I would not be surprised ifFlacco does not make the Pro Bowl in the next couple of years. The Steelerslost,but should not take anyshame. They werewithin a firstdown of being 4-0, butpenalties did themin at the end. They were alsoplaying withtheir third string quaterback CharlieBatch , who playedwell, but he is no BenRoethlisberger, who is coming back after their bye week. I can't wait for the next installmentof this rivalry.

TheWashington at Phildelphia was a letdown. Abig let down. I was more than surprised thatthe Eagle fans gave McNabb an ovationwhen hewas introduced. A class response from fansto let himknow they appreciated his efforts while he was there. Even whenMcNabb was booed when the game started, it was more like a , "Sorry Donovan, we have to this to keep our reputation." The game itself was not that exciting. I was expecting a shoot out, but as soon as Michael Vicgot hurt in first quarter, the air seemed to be let out of the stadium. It affected every body. The fans, Coach Reid, who had abrain freezeat the end of the half. Even McNabb lost some fire. The reason is Kevin Kolb.Kolb putup some decent statistics, buthe either can't or won't throw the ball downfield. He is becoming "Kevin Check Down"with thosethree yard check down passes to the running backs. They are boring and don't energize anybody. I understandthat quarterbacks just can't throw the ball all over the place becausethey don't want turnovers, but you at least have to spread field. Hisbest passof the day was the last one, which should have been caught by Avant. McNabb saw what Kolb was doing early on and realized the only waytheRedskins weregoing to lose the game was to turn the ball over. The Eagles are notsame team withoutVic. They better hope he heals quickly and teachhim to slideor they will notsniff the playoffs with Kolb at quaterback.
