NWS at Crossroads. NWS CPAs & Business Advisors holds volunteer day at Crossroads for Kids camp in Duxbury, MA

As a firm of CPAs and business advisors, NWS knows the value of charitable donations. As members of the greater South Shore business community, the firm takes giving back one step further with a dedicated volunteer day spent helping a local nonprofit. Last month, NWS held its annual volunteer day at Crossroads for Kids in Duxbury.

Since 1936, Crossroads for Kidshas provided young people from at-risk environments a safe haven via the camp's summer programs and campsite, Camp Wing. More than 1,000 Boston area youth attends Crossroads' summer and school-year programs each year. As part of its volunteer day, NWS staff split up in to teams to help "winterize" the camp's kitchen, cleaning and painting rooms throughout the facility and help with exterior maintenance.

"We've been in business since 1964 and a huge part of our success are the people and businesses on the South Shore," said Kevin White, NWS managing principal. "When you are vested in the community for as long as we have been, you not only feel compelled to give something back, you really want to. The annual volunteer day is one way NWS can do that."

In addition to being a way to give back, the volunteer day is also an invaluable tool for NWS staff to bond and get to know each other better, particularly those who recently joined the firm. In fact, this year's organizers, Lauren Rogers and Carolyn Wilson, started with NWS over the summer.

"We pride ourselves on our buddy/mentoring program and being a place where young professionals can grow and develop," said White. "We feel the volunteer day is part of that growth and an excellent way to develop camaraderie and the strong working relationships required to deliver successful results for our clients."
