Nail Polish Spills on Carpet, Bedding or Furniture: How to Fix It by:Tara Aronson

Nail polish spills - be they on the carpet, bedding

, or wood furniture - aren't always cured by acetone (better known as polish remover).

In fact it is virtually guaranteed to damage just about any polished porous or wood surface.

Instead, try softening the polish with a gentler cleaner - mineral spirits. You'll find it at your local home store or at your neighborhood janitorial supply.

Gently rub your stained nightstand with a cloth saturated in mineral spirits until the entire blight is removed.

Polish spills on carpeting are best removed by first blotting the area with polish remover, then blotting on a home mix of 1 cup of warm water and 1 teaspoon of mild hand dish-washing detergent. Sponge clean with water.

Finally, consider setting your polish bottle on a buffer surface, such as a saucer, next time you embark on a manicure-pedicure.
