, Nainital. Situated at an altitude of 2,084 metres above sea level, Nainital is set in a valley containing a pear-shaped lake, surrounded by mountains, of which the highest are Naina on the north, Deopatha on the west, and Ayarpatha on the south. The magnificent views of the vast plains and snowy ranges can be enjoyed from top of the highest point in Nainital. The highest point is the Naina Peak or China Peak, with an elevation of 2619 meters.
Nainital is set in two parts, Tallital and Mallital, with the lake separating them. Tallital is the southern side of the lake, while Mallital consists of the northern upper reaches. Nainital, also known as Lake District of Uttarkhand, is named after the goddess Naina Devi. The best time to visit Nainital is in between May and July which is the summer season.
The weather in Nainital is quite pleasant. Summers are mildly warm. The town receives snowfall during December and January.

Nainital is well-connected via rail, road and air to all the major cities in India. The nearest railhead is at Kathgodam which is at a distance of 35 km away from Nainital. There are regular bus services available from Delhi to reach Nainital. It takes about 8 hours to reach Nainital from Delhi. Uttarkhand Road Transport Corporation also runs buses in and around Nainital. The Panth Nagar airport is at a distance of about 2 hours travel from Nainital. It is one of the least busy airports in the country.
