Nascar Has The Genius To Hook And Hold Fans
Believe it or not, NASCAR, or the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing
, is a family-owned and operated business venture. Someone banked on that idea. NASCAR is among the few privately owned businesses that have the power to sanction and govern huge sporting events. It was founded by Bill France Sr. in 1947-48. The current CEO for the company is Brian France, Bill France Sr's grandson. Today NASCAR is the largest authorized director of stock car racing in the United States.
The three largest racing series sanctioned by NASCAR are the Sprint Cup, the Nationwide Series and the Camping World Truck Series. The business also oversees NASCAR Local Racing, the Whelen Modified Tour, and the Whelen All-American Series. To get an idea of how big NASCAR really is, NASCAR presides over 1,500 races at over 100 tracks in 39 states, and Canada. NASCAR has presented exhibition races in Suzuka City, Japan, Motegi City, Japan, Mexico, and Melbourne, Australia.
NASCAR is one of the most viewed professional sports in terms of television ratings in the United States, beating out basketball and baseball. In fact, professional football is the only sport in the United States to claim more viewers than NASCAR, with the Super Bowl giving those numbers a healthy boost. Internationally, NASCAR races are broadcast in over 150 countries. NASCAR holds 17 of the top 20 attended single-day sporting events in the world, and claims 75 million fans who purchase over $3 billion in annual licensed product sales. Many marketers consider NASCAR fans the most brand-loyal in all of sports and as a result, Fortune 500 companies sponsor NASCAR more than any other Motor Sport.
One of the geniuses on NASCAR to hook and retain so many avid fans is the use of the uniden NASCAR scanner. Scanners have been used for years for hobbyist with an interest in listening in on radio conversations. Some enterprising soul capitalized on these scanners, and now fans are able to listen in on conversations between their favorite drivers and their crew chief, pit crew, etc on their uniden scanners. This gives fans the feeling that they are really participating in the sport and more than mere spectators. It builds a feeling of intimacy within the sport and keeps fans riveted throughout the race.
