NASCAR events are truly invigorating, full of movement and sound and speed

. One of the most difficult things a photographer can do is to attempt to capture that same excitement through a still photo. However, it's entirely possible. Here are a few suggestions to consider as you enter the racing arena.

1. Hone Your Reflexes: It may sound obvious, but without adequate reflexes, you'll end up with dozens of pictures that only capture the tail end of the car or a blurred streak. The fastest shutter in the world won't be of much help to you if you don't know when to use it. If you've never tried taking pictures of race cars, try practicing beforehand. Use targets such as city buses, police cars, or trains. Along with helping you learn how to capture fast moving objects, these exercises will do wonders for helping you learn how to pinpoint a desired object in a crowded setting and capture it in a way that sets it apart.

2. Be Aware of Your Camera Settings: This is also a basic tip for photographing NASCAR events, but you would be surprised at just how much of a difference it makes. For example, taking advantage of auto focus, multiple shot functions, your flash settings, and other tools can do wonders for helping you capture that perfect shot. As a result, you end up with shots where the cars seem frozen in place. Adjusting your shutter speed can allow you to create photos that have a better sense of speed and movement.
