Natural Bath Salts And Bubble Salts Best Practices To Soothe And Stimulate Skin Naturally In The
Youre in the local store thinking about your next bath and you want to buy a natural
bubble bath or natural bath salt (or maybe both) that will soothe you. You may have one or several problems you would like some therapy for and do not know which bath product will work best for you. Here are a few tips to help you choose the right product before you hit the bath tub.
Before the bath.
For itchy skin caused by eczema or dry skin you may want to consider using natural salt scrubs or natural sugar scrubs before you pour your bath. Sugar scrubs are slightly gentler on your skin but salt scrubs are more effective at exfoliating your skin.
Consider your bath temperature.
Your bath shouldnt be much longer than 20-30 minutes. Therefore your bath temperature shouldnt be any warmer than what you can tolerate over a 20 minute period. A warmer temperature will stimulate blood flow that can help sore muscles and issues from poor circulation. Cooler temperatures can reduce swelling, inflammation and soothe sunburns.
For overall skin and body health.
Use a bath salt with Epsom salts. Most bath products have these, but some cheaper products may use far less. Epsom salts help draw out oil and toxins from your skin. Not only does this help your skin, but will help your overall health long term. This has also been good therapy for people that have many lesions or sores on their skin.
For itchy and dry skin.
Consider a product with colloidal oatmeal (or ground oatmeal). Oatmeal will act to coat your skin and soothe itch. It does not dry out your skin so this will help maintain your dry skin over the long term.
You may also want to consider adding a light massage oil or face oil to the bath. While this doesnt have great effects during the bath when you get out the light oil floating at the top of the bath will provide a thin layer of protection to soothe itching and seal in moisture.
Cornstarch is another product that can help soothe itchy skin while in the bath.
For hot and dry skin.
Products with sodium bicarbonate can act quickly to help soothe hot skin from sun exposure or just general dry skin conditions.
For oily skin
Consider something with a gentle surfactant (or detergent) in it. This one may be tricky as most products contain Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate or some other sulfate variant. Soaking in a tub with a sulfate is NOT good for your skin. Even soaking in a bath for 5 minutes with SLS in it is enough to cause irritation. Some product manufacturers are starting to work smarter and using surfactants like Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate. Its a much larger molecule and does not irritate the skin and does just as good of a job removing unwanted oils from your skin. Its not recommended to use bath oils in your bath if youre trying to resolve your oily skin condition.
After the bath.
Consider that you have just spent 20 to 30 minutes soaking in a therapeutic soltion. The last thing you want to do is just wipe it all off and go. We recommend instead of wiping yourself down with a towel that you dab yourself down. It still removes water but can leave behind some of the therapeutic bath salts you just used. We also recommend using natural body lotions to help seal in the good moisture that the Epsom salts help draw to the surface as well as protecting your skin from the elements.
