Probably the first thing which becomes apparent is the reddening of the skin

, Doctors refer to the three stages of the disease as progressive, stationary and regressive.

During the initial, progressive, stage, spots start to appear, they are swollen, have a bright color and are also hard to the touch. The most susceptible, sensitive areas are in areas of friction or where the skin experiences pressure, for example where the bra closes or on an injury.

In the second, or stationary, phase, there will be no new spots appearing, but those that already exist will tend to link together and form larger groupings. These will be paler in colour.

At the final regressive stage, characteristically, there will be partial, sometimes possibly, even the complete disappearance of the spots. Any remaining pale spots will be replaced by darker ones.

For many people psoriasis is an inherited illness. 60% of the patients have relatives who have suffered, or still suffer from this terrible disorder which, new research reveals, is not really a skin disorder, at all, but a condition caused by a malfunctioning of the immune system, opening a whole new world of treatment options.

Until now there has been no known, guaranteed cure or treatment against this disease that keeps it away for good. However, by studying the numerous forms and types of psoriasis, doctors have managed to develop treatments which offer a lasting remission of the disease. They can also guarantee a drastic demise or even complete disappearance of symptoms for many years.

There are several possible approaches which could be explored and which are now looked at in detail in "Psoriasis Revealed" available as a downloadable e-book from http://www.psoriasistreatment.net.au which offers a free copy with a money back guaranteed purchase of their ultimate moisturizing product which has helped many psoriasis sufferers.

After a number of studies of herbal remedies, the New England Journal of Medicine, in 1993, asserted that fish oil was no better than corn oil, when used as a dietary supplement and that the herbal remedy Evening Primrose oil when used for Psoriasis revealed only spotty results. Oregano oil and Turmeric, as well as other vitamins and St Johns Wort, have all been tried for Psoriasis with mixed results.

However, Shark Cartilage has been used successfully for treating Psoriasis, in particular AE 941 a shark cartilage extract. Taken orally once a day it can be found in most health food stores and many supermarkets. Studies on psoriasis revealed that shark cartilage extract prevents the formation of new blood vessels. The growth of new blood vessels is believed to play a role in the development and progression of psoriasis lesions. Shark cartilage is also known to have anti-inflammatory properties. Short-term side effects of AE-941 include nausea and skin rashes. Long-term side effects are not known at this time.

There are theories stating that the disease could be exacerbated by stress, but, for the most part, specialists in the field admit that this illness has remained a mystery until the recent discoveries in the field of research. Happily these discoveries have confirmed a chromosomal link and the chromosome responsible for it. It is now possible to hope that, with research continuing, a cure may be possible in the foreseeable future.
