Let's face it all water coming into our household nowadays needs to be purified. No longer do we have the pleasure of uncontaminated drinking water available. Over the past decade, the level of pollution has risen steadily bringing with it many health problems. Most of our degenerative diseases start with the water we drink.

The exact figures are unknown, but it is estimated that in excess of 21 million Americans each year become ill from drinking polluted water. Many of the waterborne diseases do not become immediately apparent. It may take months or even years to develop. Such is the case with many of the cancers; experts agree that the rise in breast and prostate cancer can be associated with drinking water contamination.

Therefore, some form of natural water purification in your household is essential to protect yourself from these health problems. It doesn't really matter where you live. Whenever you pour a glass of water from your kitchen tap where there is a substantial probability it is contaminated.

There are some contaminants, which are present in everyone's water supply. Among which is chlorine or chloramine, lead, trihalomethanes (THM), volatile organic compounds (VOC) and cysts. To remove this pollution you are going to need some form of filtration. This does not necessarily mean a major outlay or for that matter, substantial plumbing work on your household.

The simplest unit will attach to your faucet to provide you with clean healthy drinking water. Some models are comprised of just a single cartridge, whereas the better quality ones have two cartridges. The first cartridge eliminates the chlorine and turbidity. The second will remove contamination such as lead, VOCs, THMs and other hazardous chemicals in your water. The most effective and efficient units will remove in excess of 50 chemical contaminants.

If you have a problem with space around your faucet, the next model is just the job. It actually fits underneath your sink out of sight and giving you the extra space you need. Although it is bigger physically its performance is exactly the same as the previous model. How do you know how efficient a particular model is? Every company is supposed to produce a certified performance data sheet. This will tell you in great detail which contaminants it removes and the percentage reduction.

If you do not have some form of natural water purification in your household then you are putting your family at risk. You cannot rely on your local water treatment plant to provide you with pollution free water. It is up to you to provide your family with the clean healthy water they need for optimum health.
