Nature Inspires an Artist
For a female artist back when was younger, as much as she loved riding them she loved drawing horses. For this artist, she has many years of experience and with her early training she can thanks these for her career painting horses and other subjects of the natural world. Images of dogs, hens, horses, and reindeer can be seen in her pastel and watercolor paintings.
About 11 years old was her age when her family moved to the present county from Philadelphia. Her sister and mother painted as a hobby just like her father who was a commercial artist. What is considered to be real important to an artist by her father is drawing. These are evident details in the structure of the animals she paints.
As she paints animals, her love of doing so expanded this to include dogs and cats. With the artist and her husband in their present home are two dogs and a cat. There are times when she also paints pets for private commissions.
May it be the bright white of daylight to the darker amber hues of evening, light distinctly stands out in her paintings. What she cares a lot about in her paintings is having a sense of light. That is one reason she prefers watercolor to other medium. The way she sees watercolor is as a series of transparent washes that can go over paper. When it is applied, a white piece of paper can glow. A different way of creating light comes with the use of oil paint. To reveal light you should paint everything around it.
What artists do when using watercolor is painting around what is white. Before adding the light, an artist using oil should first paint in the dark shadows. In her career, the artist would like to take on the challenge of luminosity in oil paintings at some point. With her love for the impressionists, she says that some time spent for painting in oil would be appreciated.
Her move to the present location at the countryside from the former town is what inspires her nowadays. What she explores are the back roads and you can see this in her pictures of old farmhouses and landscapes in the foothills. The old farmhouses are sometimes torn down and she is concerned about these. In an effort to acknowledge and protect these old houses, she finds the necessity to paint them. She says she loves the historic architecture, obviously.
When it comes to this artist, she is also passionate about still life paintings. She makes subtle use of texture and detail rather than painting realistically or with a photographic style. The focus for her paintings of pets includes the detail as well as the animal's facial expressions. Other than going to a known school of art, she also attended the Maryland institute college of art in Baltimore. What she did for much of her career was work as a nurse but she began painting professionally since age 25. In the ensuing years, she continued to build up her painting reputation most especially in the areas of portraits, pets, architectural subjects and florals. She does her nursing duties once a week.
