Nature Of Various Solders In Electronics

Solders are metallic alloys which are melted and used in the fused form for joining two metals or metallic alloys

. These are commonly used in the electrical and electronics industry. There are different types of solders, made of different metals in varied mixes. The type of solder desired is dependent on the nature of surfaces to the joined together. Do not be surprised when the solder wire suppliers in Delhi ask you the purpose for which you are taking these solders. Some of the main categories of solders are:

1. Lead based solders: The two most common lead based solders are the 60/40 and 63/47 Lead/Tin proportion alloys. The reason for using tin is that it has good wetting properties which lead lacks. These are soft solders which melt quickly and are mainly used in the electric industry. When the proportion of lead/tin is 50/50 then it solidifies slowly after being applied and this property is used in the plumbing works to plug the gaps and make the joints water tight.

2. Lead-free solders: Since 2006, there has been an international prohibition to the use of lead based solders since it has been found to be harmful to the health. A number of other metals have replaced the lead for soldering purposes. Even the solder wire manufacturers in Delhi have started using the non-lead solders to match with the internationally accepted standards.

3. Solder with a flux in the core: Different types of fluxes are used along with the solder in order to prevent the oxidation of the residues. Some of the solders might also come with a flux in their core. The solder wire manufacturers in Delhi embed the non-acid flux in the solder wire lengthwise.

4. Hard Solder: One of the commonest applications of solder is in the making of jewelry. Alloys of copper with zinc and silver are used in these applications. There is a high proportion of the metal used in jewelry which is to be soldered.

5. Glass solder: Another application of the solders is in joining the glasses to the other glasses or items of ceramics. This is done by using the glass solders, which are of two types: vitreous and devitrifying. The glass solders find vital application in situations where the glass is required to flow and to wet the surfaces at temperatures below the one where degradation has occurred. These are also used for sealing purposes. Some of the common applications of the glass solder are in electronic packaging, evacuated glazing windows and many others.

A note of these different types of solders can tell that what is commonly seen being done is actually not so easy. The solder wire suppliers in Delhi carry most of these types of solders while some of the solders, such as the ones which are used in jewelry, are made by the smiths themselves by combining the metals in right proportion. So, it is pertinent to determine the right type of solder for different applications.
