Nba Tickets - Fantasy: First Round Projection
Here are the players that I think should go in the first round of a fantasy draft for a 2009-10
, 12-team, head-to-head fantasy basketball league, listed in order.
LeBron James, Small Forward, Cleveland Cavaliers: Not only does King James sell more NBA tickets than any other player in the league, but he also leaves fantasy basketball players drooling at his all-around statistical contributions. LeBron really has no statistical weakness and contributes in every category. No matter what the format, he should be the first overall choice.
Chris Paul, Point Guard, New Orleans Hornets: Paul has been the best fantasy player for the last two seasons, but I still can't bring myself to rank him higher than LeBron. He's a great consolation prize at number two and will post incredible assist and steal numbers. He does everything besides contribute in blocks.
Kevin Durant, Small Forward, Oklahoma City Thunder: Durant is ready to launch himself into the upper echelon of superstars this season. I think there's a good chance that he leads the league in scoring in 2009-10, and he should post great percentages and solid rebounding totals, as well. He was an elite fantasy player in the second half last season and I expect him to continue that trend.
Danny Granger, Small Forward, Indiana Pacers: Some people might be a little surprised to see Granger this high, but he deserves it. He contributes in every single category and could end up ranking in the top three by the end of the season. He's the unquestioned first option on the Pacers and will get plenty of opportunities to excel.
Kobe Bryant, Shooting Guard, Los Angeles Lakers: Kobe is bound to fall off a tad due to Ron Artest's presence since Artest can shoulder some of the load, and his own age will also be a factor. He'll still contribute great numbers across the board, but the Lakers' depth will allow him to play fewer minutes and shoulder less responsibility.
Dwyane Wade, Shooting Guard, Miami Heat: Wade was a beast last season and he figures to be a top player again this year. The reason I dropped him this low is because he's an injury risk. He has to do so much for the Heat to win that it's taking its toll on him physically and mentally.
Dwight Howard, Center, Orlando Magic: Keep in mind this is a head-to-head ranking, not a rotisserie position. You'd have to drop Howard down your rankings in a roto league, as his free throw percentage would hurt you. You can make up for it in a head-to-head league, though, and he'll post elite rebounding and blocking numbers.
Dirk Nowitzki, Power Forward, Dallas Mavericks: Dirk is a rare player in that he'll give you threes and rebounding. He's still a great fantasy option despite all the flak he gets.
Chris Bosh, Power Forward, Toronto Raptors: With more talent on the roster Bosh's individual numbers may decline a bit, but I'd expect a hike in field goal percentage and perhaps a better assists average.
Deron Williams, Point Guard, Utah Jazz: Williams is the second-best point guard next to Paul, a distinction which is likely to haunt him throughout his career.
Pau Gasol, Power Forward, Los Angeles Lakers: Gasol was an elite fantasy player last season, but he might see reduced playing time due to the arrival of Ron Artest.
Brandon Roy, Shooting Guard, Portland Trail Blazers: Roy is a great all-around contributor and will post solid numbers across the board.
