Nba Tickets - Mock Top 10
Here is my final crack at projecting the Top 10 picks of the 2010 NBA Draft:
Washington Wizards - John Wall, Point Guard, Kentucky: Wall is going number one; there is no question about that. He was a star in college and most scouts expect him to be the same in the pros. He'll help Washington sell NBA tickets from the start and will immediately be the Wizards' franchise player. Some scouts think Wall has a higher ceiling than Chicago's Derrick Rose, though I'm not sold on that. Still, his potential is fantastic and he's really the only option with this pick.
Philadelphia 76ers - Evan Turner, Shooting Guard, Ohio State: From what I hear, the Sixers have settled on Turner here. Turner was the frontrunner for this selection all along, but I think that the Sixers genuinely considered Derrick Favors and DeMarcus Cousins as well. Turner is ready to play now and should help this young team compete. His selection could result in the organization shopping Andre Iguodala this summer.
New Jersey Nets - Derrick Favors, Power Forward/Center, Georgia Tech: It seems like all the Wesley Johnson talk here was a smokescreen, probably designed to see if the Wolves would part with either the 16th or 23rd pick to swap three and four. Favors is the guy here and he makes a ton of sense. He could end up being the best player in this draft if he realizes his potential. He's got great size and athleticism, but his numbers at Georgia Tech were severely limited by the team's lack of guard play. He and Brook Lopez could be the best frontcourt duo in the league in a few years.
Minnesota Timberwolves - Wesley Johnson, Small Forward, Syracuse: The Wolves like Johnson a lot and he's a good fit. He's got the potential to be a lock-down defender and has some solid offensive skills as well. While he needs to work on his handle and creating his own shot, Johnson runs the floor very well and can hit from outside. He's also a high character guy with a great attitude.
Sacramento Kings - DeMarcus Cousins, Center, Kentucky: The Kings were skeptical of Cousins until they brought him in for a workout and he wowed everyone in the building with his skill set. Cousins' post game is unbelievably refined for a player of his age, which will make him an instant impact player on the next level. I think the idea of pairing him with Tyreke Evans as the core of this franchise moving forward is too enticing of a scenario to pass up for Sacramento.
Golden State Warriors - Al-Farouq Aminu, Forward, Wake Forest: This is where things get really difficult to project. The Warriors are in a state of flux right now as an organization so information is tough to come by, even for the top draft experts. I would take Greg Monroe, but word is that the Warriors are leaning away from him after a shaky workout. I'm hearing Ekpe Udoh could be the pick, but I'm not willing to put him here because of how bad of a decision I think that would be. The Baylor big man sounds like a real possibility, though I'm having trouble understanding why the team would do it. Aminu has a ton of upside and his ability to run the floor is attractive with a point guard like Stephen Curry in place. I'm going with him here, though the pick is really anyone's guess.
Detroit Pistons - Greg Monroe, Power Forward, Georgetown: Monroe doesn't fill the Pistons' need for toughness inside, but he's the best big man available and Detroit desperately needs size. He's not the toughest of big guys, but he's incredibly skilled. He could be a very good player if he adds some weight to his frame and someone lights a fire under him to get tougher down low. If he's off the board, I expect them to target Ed Davis.
Los Angeles Clippers - Gordon Hayward, Small Forward, Butler: If Aminu is off the board, I fully expect the Clippers to opt for Hayward. The team has a gaping hole at the three and Hayward would be able to contribute right away. He's a smart player that can do everything and would be a nice piece to add to the Clips' puzzle.
Utah Jazz - Ed Davis, Power Forward, North Carolina: The Jazz really like Luke Babbitt, but I don't think they'll take him if either Monroe or Davis slips to them. Davis is a good rebounder and defender, and would be a solid backup to Paul Millsap, who will likely be thrust into the starting role thanks to Carlos Boozer's impending departure.
Indiana Pacers - Ekpe Udoh, Power Forward, Baylor: The Pacers don't really have an interior defender that they can count on going forward. Udoh would give them just that, though his offensive potential is limited. I think the team will look to move this pick in an effort to acquire a point guard, but would settle for beefing up their interior defense if that option doesn't pan out. Paul George is an option here, but I think he's too much like Danny Granger.
