Nba Tickets - The Two Beasts Of The East
While the Cleveland Cavaliers may have the best player in the game
, I don't think they've got what it takes to reach the Eastern Conference Finals this season. It's not that they don't have the talent, but I think they run the LeBron-on-Five offense way too often and I think that takes its toll in the end. I think the most likely Conference Finals matchup would be the Orlando Magic versus the Boston Celtics in a rematch of last season's second-round playoff series. LeBron James will sell tons of NBA tickets this season, but I think it's these two teams that have what it takes to battle for the conference title.
Orlando was able to beat Boston in their playoff series last season, but the Celtics were without Kevin Garnett and Boston still gave them a solid run. Boston center Kendrick Perkins was able to neutralize Orlando's Dwight Howard, using his big body to keep Howard away from the basket as well as we've seen anyone do it. Howard is the centerpiece of this Orlando team and taking him out of his comfort zone puts them at an immediate disadvantage. Boston's defensive scheme is one of the best in the league and they use it to do a solid job against Orlando's barrage of three-point shooters.
Orlando has added another offensive element since last season, though, acquiring Vince Carter from New Jersey in an offseason trade. Carter gives the Orlando offense a new dimension. He's able to create his own shot and facilitate for others. He can hit threes, so he doesn't take away from that aspect of their offensive strategy, and he's still a high-flying finisher at the rim.
On the other hand, Boston has a healthy Kevin Garnett back. He might not be the automatic 20-10 guy that we became accustomed to seeing, but he's still a good rebounder, solid interior scorer and the engine that makes this defense go. If he can stay healthy this season, the Celtics have a great shot at getting to the Conference Finals. The team also added Rasheed Wallace in the offseason. Not only is Wallace a solid, versatile and experienced rotation player, but he provides a nice insurance policy if Kevin Garnett were to get injured again this season. He makes this team deeper, something that Orlando knows all about.
The Magic are probably the deepest team in the NBA. They've got so many players that Stan Van Gundy's rotation could probably span the entire bench. With underrated bench players like Mickael Pietrus, Marcin Gortat and Brandon Bass, this team has a distinct advantage over most opponents in second team matchups. The Magic have gotten off to a really good start, despite Rashard Lewis' 10-game suspension and some injuries, mostly due to their depth.
The x-factor of this matchup could end up being Boston point guard Rajon Rondo. Rondo is blossoming into one of the best point guards in the league and he's capable of posting a triple-double on any given night. He finally received an extension from the organization, which should bury any potential animosity that had been brewing over the summer and he could be the most important player on this team.
I think Boston and Orlando are the two best teams in the Eastern Conference due to their overall talent, playoff experience and team depth. The two teams will face off in Orlando on Christmas Day and we could be seeing a preview of the Conference Finals. That should be a great game and give us a better sense of who has what advantages in which areas.
