Need Of Enterprise Architecture

Enterprise architecture is referred as the overall layout which outlines the systems and technology requirements of an organization

. Such requirement analysis helps in implementing various information technology assets to deliver business goals. It also helps in identifying what an organization needs to do in terms of IT, with reference to present and future perspectives.

An enterprise architecture strategy encapsulates a set of principles, a vision of future state of organization with the appropriate methods or plans for implementing the changes and then transforming to the changed state successfully. With effective enterprise architecture plan or strategy a business could achieve higher profitability and reduce its time of production. It also helps in minimizing the IT infrastructure services deployment costs for a business and minimizes the critical failure rates of systems.

An enterprise architecture strategy in itself contains four key sub-sets or strategies, which altogether forms an enterprise architecture plan:

Business Architecture: It determines the business processes, strategies and standards on which business operates. It also defines the key business processes.

Application Architecture: It highlights various applications and processes to be used in order to support different business functionalities. It provides a relationship between the key business process and the application systems to be deployed.

Data and information Architecture: It classifies the raw data to operate upon and describe the structure of logical and physical data assets for an organization.

Technology Architecture: It describes the technological requirements for an organization to deploy in its routine operations. It defines hardware, operating systems, and network etc. requirements of a business.

Enterprise architecture provides a highlight of approach for running a business successfully and making it flexible enough so as to mould itself according to the future changes. Some advantages of drafting enterprise architecture plan are:

Improves the interoperability of processes

Minimizes the complexities related to IT resources

Reduces risks for future faliure

Increases the flexibility in business

Faster time-to-market for launching new products

Resource optimization in terms of technology, processes, workforce etc.

Information management is another advantage which provides proper handling of corporate data

Eliminates redundancy or duplication of resources and other assets related to a business.

Many software development companies with no or poor enterprise architecture strategy or plan face the inability to quickly respond to challenges with changing business needs. Rigidity, redundancy and lack of flexibility are also incurred due to lack of integration, interoperability and compatibility of processes.
