Neet Medical Entrance Examination
National eligibility and entrance test or NEET is the national level common entrance
examination held in India for students seeking admissions into medicine, both undergraduate and post graduate. The
NEET Syllabus covers three main topics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. These three subjects are the base of the examination.
These examinations are run by 271 medical college of India, in which 138 colleges runs by the government and rest 133 under private management. These colleges offer 31,000 seats for MBBS courses and another 11,000 seats for PG degrees.
The NEET Eligibility Criteria:
The candidate must have passed 12th examination with a minimum of 50% in aggregate of physics, chemistry and biology from a recognized board before their admission.
Medical Council of India (MCI) conducts the All India Level Common Entrance Examination for admission into medical under graduate (NEET UG), post graduate (NEET PG).
No. of seats available in UG and PG Medical courses in India:
Seats for under graduate (MBBS / BDS ) medical courses.
Seats for post graduate medical (MD / MS ) courses.
A single merit will be created for close to 35,000 MBBS seats across the country, which will show state, minorities and SC/ST quotas.

Medical Entrance Exam would cover all medical colleges except the Armed Forces Medical College and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences(AIIMS) in New Delhi and the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh may be outside the NEETs purview as these institutes were set up by separate laws.
The MCI will not touch the management quota, it insist that even management quota candidates should come from the national merit list.
The NEET syllabus
MCI has announced the exam pattern of NEET, consisting of 180 multiple choice questions having the 4 sections biology, chemistry, zoology and physics, each section contains 45 questions. No negative marks for wrong answers and final score will be calculated in percentile. The multiple choice type questions will be based on the MBBS syllabus as well the knowledge during internship will also be used for this post graduate of NEET. The notified syllabus for NEET-UG has been achieved after review of various state syllabi as well as those prepare by CBSE, NCERT and COBSE.
Impact of NEET
NEET shall replace All India Pre -Medical Test (AIMPT) the national level medical entrance test for MBBS courses which will2012 will be used for admissions into 15% seats of all government medical colleges except that of in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir.
