Negotiating: Stop Arguing, Start Achieving

Negotiating: Stop Arguing, Start Achieving.

Negotiation involves reaching a conclusion between two parties. The conclusion is mutually beneficial. One can say there are all sorts of outcomes when negotiations occur. Typically negotiationscan destroy relationships, trust and even credibility. Simply because egos prevent the vision of a winning philosophy. Messages may not get across and not everyone is leaving satisfied. Why is that? Do negotiations have to be a battle? This article will aim to uncover the problems facing negotiation, and how beneficial outcomes may be reached.

Today we see all sorts of negotiation. We see negotiations happen within the walls of banking institutions, between union workers, in court, and even at home. This concept is a big function of unity, which is why much emphasis should be always be placed on improving negotiation. When uncovering the subject, it can be said that two (or more) parties have different views. Both sides want the best case scenario going in to any negotiation. This could lead to one or both parties using aggression to achieve a hard bargain, in many cases causing hurt or defeat. Thus the ways of communicating are being tainted by bad manners.

This article gives you permission to have a "good" negotiation. This would mean empathizing with one another and reaching common ground. Its best to listen to the other party, to truly understand what is it that's being asked for. Listening will help you formulate, as Stephen Covey would say, a "Win/Win" scenario. Both parties are reaching a positive conclusion, and by going the extra mile, energy is not wasted on pointless slander. Its important not to have someone take advantage of you, and that is not what this article suggests. No one should be dominated in conversations. What is being said is that its best to meet the needs of the other party, while also meeting your own needs. This way you are showing the other party that you do care about their thoughts and opinions. When you show this, the other party will drop its guard. This will bring out straight talk and synergy. Conclusions will met much quicker and time is not wasted. The parties will be building up, rather than beating each other down. Showing respect will build trust, and open up options for the future. Not all deals will work out, but at least you will start ending them on a good note.
