When you first got started in network marketing

, you were probably advised to produce a "warm list" - a list of people you already know or have known in the past.

What's wrong with this is that these people are not, in most cases, actually looking for a business opportunity. And you may struggle to come up with enough people and be forced to pursue them over and over again, making yourself pretty unpopular!

Now, I'm not saying don't approach your warm market at all. Since these are people who already know, like and trust you, you should enlist their help and tap into their contacts networks. The vast majority won't want to join your business - but they may direct you to someone who does. They should definitely be part of your network marketing lead generation strategy.

However, if your goal is to build a six or seven figure income in this industry, your network marketing lead generation efforts will need to extend way beyond family and friends.


The people you really SHOULD be targeting are people who have shown that they are looking for what you have to offer. Yes, I'm talking about network marketers - people who are or have been in a network marketing business, or who are looking for one to join. These are your hottest prospects of all.

Where do you find this potentially lucrative band of network marketers? The answer is online. Right now, a huge number of these hot prospects are scouring the internet, looking for information. Information that will help them with their business building efforts, guide them in training their teams and maybe even assist them in choosing the right business to join.

The smart way to build your network marketing list is to go online and attract those prospects to you. This may sound daunting, but there's a myriad of ways of doing this and it can be fun.

If you enjoy writing, you can author articles and even set up a blog - but be sure to identify the key words you want to rank well with and include these in your articles. If you do this right, you could and should find yourself on the first page of Google.

Or why not take part in a few of the online forums that have been set up to advise network marketers? You can share your growing expertise and build your reputation that way.

But remember, don't try to sell your network marketing business up front, it will turn people off. Focus instead on helping people by providing valuable information and advice and your business will surely grow.
